With the temperature barely above 0 degrees, Tornadoes mightily braved the cold to take on Chequers in what turned out to be a thrilling end to end closely contested match.
The first quarter saw both teams displaying some great passing and it was literally end to end action. Some fantastic shooting from both Karen and Steph saw Tornadoes draw the quarter 5-5 with everyone needing to draw breath at the break. Tornadoes came out fighting in the second quarter and Bryony really controlled the game from centre enabling Tornadoes to comfortably take the lead. It wasn’t so straight forward in the third quarter; Chequers passing and shooting was on fire, but our defence in Laura, Sam and Helen held firm, making some great interceptions to win a couple of points from their centre passes. We were into the final quarter; we were ahead but Chequers weren’t going down without a fight, it was end to end and nail-biting to watch…Alice defended hard with superb blocking and intercepting and we held on….Tornadoes came away with a hard fought win 20-17.
Player of the Match was Meg, making her debut for the Tornadoes at WA. Fantastic game to watch and greatly contested from both teams.
